Apple and Android King of Smartphone 2011


Apple and Android have taken over the smart phone market in the world and get rid of veteran players Nokia Corp. and BlackBerry maker Research in Motion Ltd.
Google's Android and Apple's devices dominate 62 percent of smart phone sales worldwide in 2011, achieving nearly double the market share of Google's Android and Apple last year, 32 percent, according to research firm Gartner Inc.

In North America, combined accounted for 83.5 percent of Apple's Android smart phone sales.

In the first quarter of last year, the new Android smart phones donate 10 percent of the global smart phone sales, rose to 17 percent in the next quarter. A year later, at the end of the second quarter of 2011, Android phones contributed 43.4 per cent.
Just as with Apple, nearly 1 in 5 of smart phones sold worldwide is an iPhone or a total of 18.2 percent.
In contrast to Google which only offer the Android operating system architecture and do not produce mobile phones, Apple is building its own smart phone and benefit directly every iPhone sold.
Apple grabbed profits from the sale of more than 20 million units of iPhones in last quarter. Currently, Apple is aligned with Exxon Mobil Corp. as the world's largest company by market value.
Although Nokia is still in second place, the shares of the company's smartphone market has dropped sharply to 22 percent in the last quarter, whereas in the previous year was 41 percent.
Research in Motion lagged far behind, smart phone sales fell from 18.7 percent to 11.7 percent.
Although Microsoft Corp. has launched several efforts to promote a line of smart phones but still in vain. Microsoft is only able to mengusai 1.6 percent from 4.9 percent a year earlier, according to the Los Angeles Times reported.
